Life is one hell of a dicey journey, mostly characterized by the notion of survival of the fittest. It is made more brutish by the lack of time on our hands. The race is jumpy and there is no room to lift or assist the falling souls.
It is not your fault that you do not have a lot of time. Neither is it intentional that you do not have the time to freely give away to helping others…
This is what life has become. It is either be part of the race or be left behind—-miserably. The rush has become mandatory and without realizing, we’ve become extensively self-centred.
At this stage, can you be honest and find an answer to the question; when was the last time you genuinely helped someone in life?
It surely does not have to anything big since most of us do not have the time or resource to entertain huge giveaways. The smallest help can put a mighty smile on someone’s face and turn a life around—something we should strive to achieve in life.
I was as guilty as you when it comes to helping others. Since I did not have much left after my expenses and with friends and family to assist, giving out financial help to others was out of the question for me.
However, I realized that I can genuinely help or make an impact in the lives of others by offering to give away some hours without expecting any returns.
It does not have to be money, it can also be time—-remember time is money and indirectly, you can help someone make money or have a new life by offering your time.
Like most people, the 24 hours in a day is not enough for me and yet, I wanted to dedicate some time to help others. Even if I find the time, what is it that I can offer—-I kept asking myself this.
As a law graduate, I have a lot of skills on my figure tips and you surely must have something great talent or skills too.
Since I was looking to help others—-genuinely, I decided to help at my local Law Center (Luton Law Center) once every week and I have been doing this for a year now.
Giving away 6 hours each week for free when I could possible make some money from it seems like a hell lot to give away. But the satisfaction I get anytime I walk out of the Law Centre door on Wednesdays cannot be compared to any financial gains.
It doesn’t have to be at a Law Centre, it can be at anywhere….Anything that you can do to genuinely help others will bring you this sort of satisfaction too—-money can never fetch you this.
It is not all glamorous at the Law Centre all the time but I make sure I show up each week to assist. There are some great days when I learn a lot from helping—-like attending Tribunal/Court with solicitors and helping with their cases. I even get to ask these experts some of the mind blogging legal questions that I struggle with…
But there are those times when the only thing needed to be done is ‘to send post away’ and I help with that too. So you see, it can be anything—-what matters is your desire to genuinely help others without expecting any returns.
Life doesn’t make room for us to help others…But it is up to us to create a place in our heart to help those who have fallen in the race.
Anytime I have typed a case closing letter to a client at the Law Centre, I beam with a smile. Seeing how someone has been successfully helped and imagining the burden that has been taken of this person’s shoulders makes me smile.
You can make a difference in your life and that of others by simply and genuinely helping others!
