Competition Brings The Best Out Of Us In Life, But The Person You Are Competing With Determines Your Success…

Competitions help to bring the best out of us as human beings. This is evident in the numerous well known sports and educational competitions regularly organised around us. When we are placed alongside a person we see as an ‘enemy’ or a competitor, we tend to naturally do extremely well.

However, when it comes to achieving success in the everyday things we do, most of us tend not to perform well. We lack a competitor in our lives and as such we settle for the least that we put out.

It will be absurd to constantly put yourself in a life competition with your friends or people around you. Apart from the fact that this may put you under needless pressure, it can easily land you into the deep pit of depression should your competitors continue to excel beyond your strength. It can also give birth to unnecessary jealousy.

This does not however mean that, you do not have to regularly compete in life. If competition brings the best out of us as humans, then why should we not continuously result to that to help us achieve the best?

Placing your everyday activities and goals into a competition is the best option to bring the best out of you but the person you compete with is what must be perfectly construed or else, you will get it all wrong.

As you strive to achieve the best in life, you only need to compete with yourself. Yes, yourself. This may sound silly but that is the only way you can bring the best of out and still avoid the deep pit of jealousy and depression.

To compete with yourself is simple; for instance, if you had a mark of 70 in your last examination and you are preparing for your next, you challenge and compete with yourself to beat your previous result. If you were able to save $1000 last year, you compete and challenge yourself to double this by the end of the year instead of striving to achieve an amount that your sister or friend acquired.

Life is not a race or a fierce competition among us, but it is a competition for and against our individual selves. Adopt the concept of self competition to help bring out the best in you and avoid any life race that considers another person as your contender.

  1. Thats why its so important to set your OWN standards in life. Compare what you achieve to the standards you have set yourself, not what other people achieve.

    1. Surely right, most individuals lack self goals, all they do is look at what others are chasing and join the mass chase. Thanks for commenting!
