How To Live A Wonderful Life…

Over the years, I have struggled and longed for a wonderful life. I have now come to a stage where I can proudly say, I am content with the life I am living. Life is great, life is beautiful and life is wonderful for me.

I hope you are not thinking I am here to brag to you about how wonderful my life is. This is to share with you how I was able to at least come to a stage in my life where I believe life is indeed wonderful for me. It has in the past been hell and I never thought I could make it to this day.

If you are also seeking that wonderful life you should have and  deserve , I am glad to share with you how I landed on the wonderful side of this thorny journey we go through each day called LIFE.

If you are ignoring any of the things below which made my life miserable, you are surely in a better position than I was. At least you have this chance to quickly adjust things so that you can swiftly gravitate towards the wonderful life you want. I never had this chance; I could have avoided many of my pains.

1. Rightly Define ‘What Is Wonderful Life’

How many times have you watched a movie and have wished your life was on point exactly like that of one of the characters?

How on earth can one person have the best of education, the flashy cars, great personality and look, a sexy partner, wealth and several unimaginable great things at his or her disposal when you are struggling just to get only one or two of these things?

Never be fooled by what you see in movies or on TV, everyone has a pin somehow at their butt that they are struggling to deal with, but TV or movies will hardly show you that side of things when it comes to creating these enviable characters.

That is how they define ‘wonderful life’, what about you?

I took me many years to realize that, living a wonderful life is no way equal to living the life you see on TV or in movies. That is not a wonderful life but rather a fairy-tale life, created and perfected by several brains with many hours of reshooting and editing. No one ever lives like that, not even the top world celebrities. If you had the same opportunities to rehearse and reshoot scenes of your life of course it would be as we see in the movies!

Forget about living a fairy-tale life so you can live a REAL wonderful and peaceful life. To live a wonderful life, you must realistically define what a ‘wonderful life is to you’.

I hope it is not about fast cars, millions in the bank, beautiful girls or handsome men for you…

2. Cut Your Coat According To Your Size

My grandmother used to say, if you cannot buy something with your own real cash, then you do not deserve that thing at that point in time. This may sound too harsh and unrealistic but what she intended to achieve was to break us away from living beyond our means.

We must begin to acknowledge the pleasure and greatness in the things that we can afford. Being content with what you have and what you can achieve without stretching yourself far than you can handle creates a wonderful life-stress free life.

The desire and temptation to get those things you ‘think’ you deserve on credit or through inappropriate means can be great but in the long run, those things will never bring you any lasting happiness because it was not the right time for you to have those things.

Is it the newest phone you so much want? Is it the fast car or the new shoes you think you deserve? Until we are able to learn to forgo the instant satisfaction we can get from leaving beyond our means and control our spending, we will always find ourselves at tight corners, far from the wonderful lives we want.

3. Find A Job You Are Passionate About

Have you ever thought about the number of hours you spend at work or you will spend working for the rest of your life?

Most of us will work until we are 60-65 years. Supposing you started working at the age of 20 or 30, that is about 40 years of your life dedicated to work.

If you going to spend majority of your life doing something, it better be what makes you happy and what you are passionate about.

How are you supposed to have a wonderful life if you will spend your entire life in a job you so much hate?

Your job must not only give you money, it must also give you satisfaction and happiness (forget the conservative economic principle of the reward of labour being salary).

Think about this…Do you want to spend 40 years of your life being miserable in return for money so you can acquire things that you will eventually die and leave behind?

If you want to live a wonderful life, then you should carefully consider what the late genius  Steve Jobs said during his 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech …“You’ve got to find what you love…Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”

4. Be Healthy & Keep Your Body In Shape

As long as you are alive, you have LIFE but then living a wonderful life goes beyond simply being able to breath.  It is not always about what we can get from the bigger world for ourselves.

What about taking care of ourselves?

No matter how much we can manage to keep in the bank or how much we are worth, we must put our health first and seek to keep our bodies in shape.

For you to be able to live a wonderful life, you must be able to look in the mirror and be proud of what you see.  All you have is just one body and nothing else.

The moment you destroy it with excessive alcohol and unhealthy lifestyle, your spirit will be trapped in a body that it would never come to agree with. How can you live a wonderful life when you are not proud of your own body?

Do not tell me it is not your fault that you have such a body. It may be true but you always have the chance to work things out.

To keep your body healthy and in shape, you must exercise regularly and pay special attention to your body. Avoid any substance and lifestyle that will ruin your body. That is all you have for today and the future so take good care of it.

5. Place Great Value On Personal Relationships

When it comes to relationships and your dealings with people, forget about riches or make that secondary. Have you heard the saying ‘good name is better than riches’?

A true rich man is the person who has good relationships with the people who matter in life. If you want to be able to live wonderfully, you must value the relationship you build on your journey through life. If you are not building any, start building some now by getting to know your neighbours and the people you regularly meet.

Every person you will come in contact with in life has a purpose and you must find that before letting them go. Even if you have no time to find that hidden purpose, make sure you are in their good books so that when you finally find their purpose, you can return to help them or be helped.

In order to have great relationship with those near and far (be it friends, family, acquaintance or strangers), avoid being dishonest and never make it all about money.

If you are ever faced with a chance to make money and a chance to make a good friend, you should always choose the latter.

Remember that, even if you are able to achieve everything you want in life, you would never be happy if you do not have anyone to share them with.

What do you term as a ‘wonderful life’ and what steps are you taking to achieve that?
